Directorate of IT & SS signs MoU with C-DAC

 

The Directorate of Information Technology and Support System University of Kashmir has signed a broad based MoU with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bangalore. Centre for Development of Advanced Computing is a Scientific Society of the Department of Information Technology, under Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India.

 

 As a result of the interaction between C-DAC and IT&SS at various levels, both the parties have agreed to come together and have decided to work jointly in the areas of common interest as per the MoU. The MoU broadly defines the mode and methodology for cooperation, among others, in the following areas:

  1. Setting-up of a Centre of Excellence in e-Governance and mobile governance in the University of Kashmir, Srinagar.
  2. To assist the State of J&K in setting up, development, operation and maintenance of the Software and Infrastructure related to the SSDG State Portal for e-Forms Project.
  3. Research and Development in the area of e-Governance and m-Governance.

As per the terms contained in the MoU, C-DAC shall train selected staff of IT&SS on specifically identified technical areas, train the trainers identified by IT&SS on installation / commissioning / support / training etc. on the installed applications (e-Governance services), provide consultancy to IT&SS related to Software development where required and make available C-DAC’s high end computing resources to ITSS. On University of Kashmir side, IT&SS shall identify and provide skilled and qualified manpower as specified and required by C-DAC for training in installation, commissioning, usage and support/maintenance of software applications. It shall also arrange for training infrastructure (class room and lab) at training locations identified by C-DAC and provide the physical space for establishing the Centre of Excellence in e-Governance and m-Governance. In addition, IT&SS shall train end-users of CDAC's applications and provide full support and Maintenance to the applications provided by C-DAC specifically covered by individual projects. Also on cards is to provide office space for CDAC personnel who may be posted in Srinagar and to draw out plans with C-DAC for the use of high end computing resources and expertise for their specific requirements of simulation and modelling.

 

Vocational Training in VLSI and Embedded Systems

 

The collaborative project includes development and deployment of a virtual 'IMAGE VLSI and Embedded Systems Laboratory' infrastructure across the country, and the delivery of educational content through this infrastructure using distance learning facilities provided by the Center for Distance Engineering Education Program (CDEEP), IIT Bombay. Additionally, development of Vocational Educational Module, use of Haptic devices and use of virtual laboratories for VLSI and Embedded Systems whas been implemented.
